The Supreme Court today issued a long-awaited verdict on a case concerning the burial of Christian pastor Subhash Baghel in Bastar, Chhattisgarh. Baghel’s body had been lying in the morgue for over three weeks. While the court delivered a split verdict, it ordered that the body be buried at a Christian cemetery located 20 kilometres away from the deceased’s village.

A Division Bench of the Supreme Court on Monday gave a split verdict on the rights of the deceased Christian belonging to a Scheduled Tribe (ST) community to be buried in a village burial ground.
