Bhubaneswar, (DMC) : Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Majhi has congratulated the Koraput district administration on being selected for the Prime Minister’s Award for Excellence in Public Administration. Taking to his X handle, Majhi wrote: ” Congratulations to @dmkoraput and their team on being selected for the Prime Minister’s Award for Excellence in Public Administration 2024. Their exemplary work in holistic district development is truly commendable. May they continue to achieve bigger milestones and inspire others.” Although the award year mentioned in the CM’s praise is 2024, the district is set to receive the award in 2025 for its outstanding performance. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will present the award to Koraput District Collector, V. Keerthi Vasan, at a ceremony in New Delhi on April 21. Vasan thanked the district’s residents, officials and staff for their hard work and dedication, which led to this achievement. The award recognises Koraput district’s significant contributions to overall development, particularly in effectively implementing 11 central government schemes. By engaging with the public and showcasing its capabilities, the district administration has earned its place among the best districts in the country. Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has expressed deep grief over the death of two students who drowned in Keshari Kunda, Baitarani River in Keonjhar. He extended his condolences to the bereaved families and announced a financial compensation of Rs 4 lakh from the State Disaster Management Fund to the next of kin of both deceased students. The two students, identified as Nitesh Peldar and Pritam Mahamanat, were swept away while bathing in the river with friends. They were pronounced dead at the Champua Community Health Centre. According to reports, eight students had gone to the river to bathe due to the hot summer. Three of them, including Nitesh and Pritam, were swept away. Despite the efforts of others, the two students couldn’t be saved. They were later rescued and taken to the Champua Community Health Centre, where the doctor declared them dead.
